Our physicians at Pain Control Associates focus solely on patients who face pain. Our practice works with all types of conditions and issues that cause pain that impacts the daily lives of our community members and prevents them from living their lives to the fullest. We specialize in creating custom plans that will target each individual patient’s particular pain problem. We work with individuals who have neck pain or back pain, neuropathy, sciatica, continued issues after an auto accident or work injury, and more. As experts in the field of pain management, our team recognizes how much continued or chronic pain can affect your daily life.
Pain is such an individualized issue that it can be hard to pinpoint the reason behind it, how to address it and how to prevent more pain in the future. Our team begins with a thorough health exam to review your current health status. We will also have an in-depth conversation about where your pain is felt and how strong, and how often. We will want to know about any past surgeries, injuries, or conditions that may be behind your current pain. A particular type of pain that is consistent is called chronic pain. Unfortunately, there is not always a clear reason for why some patients experience chronic pain.Â
Factors that may be behind chronic pain include arthritis, low back strain, headaches, nerve damage, or a cancer diagnosis. Chronic pain is not fully understood why it is felt by some people and not others. It is believed that the pain messaging system in the nerves and spinal cord may be more sensitive, causing the feeling of more and longer bouts. Pain messages can continue even when the reason for the pain is gone.Â
Once our physicians have a good idea of your pain issues and health history, we will work with you to determine a strategy to ease your pain and manage it as best as possible. Treatments might include medication, electrical stimulation, psychotherapy, relaxation techniques, meditation therapy, exercise, and behavior modification. A combination of these treatments may be needed. The whole process needs to be a collaboration between our physicians and you as a patient. You will need to keep us informed of how certain treatments are working so that we can adjust your plan as we try different approaches. We understand how frustrating and stressful it can be to live with pain on a chronic basis, but we will help you stay on track to determine what works best and help you wake up every day ready for what the day may bring.
